Dimbokro, 02 déc 2023 - The "Réseau ivoirien des organisations de personnes vivant avec le VIH-Sida, RIP+", by its chairman of the board, Guéhi Filbert, wishes that the fight against the pandemic can take place ouside the closet.
"Talking about HIV openly, is an experience that enables us to fight the disease effectively. More people need to do this for a good cause", said the chairman of NGO RIP+ on World AIDS Day in Dimbokro.
Describing himself as "a palpable example" of the AIDS disease, Guéhi Filbert reveals that he was dignosed positive on August 31, 1993, just over 30 years ago.
Sharing one's experience helps forge a mindset and also save lives," he added while urging infected people to "follow their doctor's advice". Treatment is free and enables them to "live like others".
According to a UNAIDS report, the prevalence of HIV infection in Côte d'Ivoire has fallen from 3.4% in 2010 to 1.82% in 2023.
Founded in 1997 on the initiative of four associations of people living with HIV (PLHIV), namely "Lumière Action", "Club des amis", "GAP+PS" and "Virus Village", RIP + is now made up of 68 organisations across the country.
